Eight hundred fifty to 1,290 milligrams two or three times a day, 1/2 to 1 teaspoon of a liquid extract or tincture, or 1 to 2 teaspoons of the dried herb steeped in a cup of hot water up to three times a day. Select a high-quality, reputable product with an assurance that it contains only Scutellaria. In the past, real skullcap was often adulterated with Teucrium canadense, or pink skullcap. A related species, T. chamaedrys, or germander, has been identified as a cause of liver problems (see "Skullcap side effects.")
