Sassafras side effects

Precautions:

Sassafras shouldn't be ingested or applied to the skin for any length of time, if at all. The question is how much of the pure oil's peril is imparted via judicious use of the herbal medicine. Ingesting as little as 1 teaspoon of the volatile oil has killed one adult, and just a few drops might be enough to kill a child. Some experts claim that just one cup of sassafras tea contains more than enough safrole to pose a high hazard. Other herbal experts dismiss the warning, saying that levels of safrole are less carcinogenic than the ethanol in a bottle of beer.
