Rosemary benefits
Medicinal Properties:
Rosemary gives us much to remember—and the phytochemical "string around the finger" through which to do so. Some six or so substances in the herb (several of which are readily absorbed through the skin) help prevent the breakdown of the brain chemical acetylcholine, a deficiency of which has been implicated in Alzheimer's disease. It contains good concentrations of two dozen or so antioxidants. (Oxidation also figures in the brain deterioration process.) Other compounds trigger better blood circulation throughout the body, including the brain. The antioxidants also help protect the capillaries and ward off hardening of the arteries and heart disease. In this regard, rosemary's diosmin might be even better than the rutin in horse chestnut, pansies, and violets. Your eyes also benefit from antioxidants, as well as from at least four recognized anticataract chemicals. The essential oil's cineole arouses the central nervous system and serves as a natural pick-me-up. In laboratory experiments, the oil also has been shown to lower blood sugar. All these documented actions are cutting-edge phytomedicine, but many of rosemary's traditional uses also are backed up by science, including encouraging better release of digestive acids and dispelling intestinal gas.
