Prevent cancer

An ounce of prevention

While not all cancers can be avoided, taking steps to minimize your lifetime exposure to carcinogens can help lower your risk of developing some cancers. Don't smoke; don't drink heavily; eat a low-fat, high-fiber diet; maintain your optimal weight; avoid unnecessary x-rays; check your home for radon gas; and limit your exposure to sun and wear sunscreen. In addition, visit your doctor regularly for routine screening tests.

Prevent cancerCALL FOR HELP

While many cancers grow silently in the body for months or years before making themselves known, contact your doctor immediately if you detect any cancer warning signs, such as a lump under the skin, a persistent cough, bloody sputum, difficulty swallowing, chronic indigestion, discharge from the nipple, bleeding between periods, change in bowel habits, blood in stool or urine, headaches and visual disturbances, excessive bruising, nosebleeds, unexplained weight loss, abdominal pain, a sore that does not heal, or change in a wart or mole.
