HIV natural remedies

• Licorice tea contains a constituent called glycyrrhizin, which inhibits a number of processes involved in viral replication. Studies indicate that glycyrrhizin inhibits the growth of HIV in test tubes. Clinical trials have also produced positive results.

• Oregano and self-heal contain antioxidants that can help maintain immune function in those who are HIV-positive.

•  St. John's wort contains two antiviral compounds: hypericin and pseudohypericin. Much research still needs to be done to determine the full therapeutic value of these two compounds in treating HIV. The results of test-tube and animal studies have been positive. A mixture of hypericin and several derivatives has been patented as a treatment for cytomegalovirus infection, one of the many infections that strike people with AIDS. Caution: This herb contains MAO (monoamine oxidase) inhibitors. Do not take if you're pregnant. Avoid prolonged sun exposure while using St. John's wort; it can make skin more sensitive to sunlight.

HIV natural remedies• HIV natural remedies: There is some evidence that acemannan, a compound found in aloe, may be beneficial in treating AIDS. Test-tube studies show it to be active against HIV.

• Astragalus, while not having demonstrated any anti-HIV effect, is an immune booster. Caution: Do not use if you have a fever.

• A research report claimed that the root extract of black-eyed Susan stimulates the immune system better than echinacea extracts.

• Blessed thistle contains compounds with anti-HIV activity.

• Burdock juice or extracts have shown test-tube activity against HIV

• One of the most powerful and popular immune-boosting herbs is echinacea. It has antiviral properties and increases the efficiency of white blood cells.

• HIV natural remedies: Garlic contains a compound called ajoene, which may inhibit the spread of HIV within the body. Garlic is also effective against a number of the opportunistic infections of AIDS.

• One of the best sources of the antioxidant compound quercetin is the onion. It has many of the same antiviral effects as garlic. Cook with onion and leave the skin on; that's where the majority of the quercetin is.

• Pears contain caffeic and chlorogenic acids. The former is an immune stimulant, the latter has been studied and shown to have activity against HIV

• The life expectancies of people who were HIV-positive more than doubled by adding gamma-linoleic acid (GLA) and omega-3 fatty acids found in fish such as salmon and swordfish to their diets.

• Evening primrose is an excellent source of GLA.

•  Iceland moss contains compounds that inhibit an enzyme essential to replication of HIV. AZT and other AIDS drugs do the same thing, but with toxicity and the inability to completely inhibit the virus. The moss, however, is nontoxic to cells.

•  HIV natural remedies: Cat's claw boosts immune function, and has been helpful for people with AIDS and AIDS-related cancers. Caution: Do not use if you are pregnant.

Dosages may vary, depending on the severity of your symptoms. Consult a qualified herbal practitioner. Be sure to let your physician know of your decision to use herbs; not all herbal remedies are useful or safe when used in conjunction with conventional pharmaceuticals.

What makes it worse?

•  Diets composed primarily of whole cereal grains and green vegetables can interfere with adequate absorption of zinc, creating deficiency, and weakening your immune function.

• Diets inadequate in regular intake of complete protein can also increase susceptibility to infections.

• A diet high in sugar debilitates your immune system by reducing your ability to produce antibodies against disease as well as by reducing the killing power of certain immune defenders. Recommendation: Eliminate or sharply curtail your intake of refined sugar, corn syrup, high-fructose corn syrup, molasses, and all products made with these substances.
