Ovarian Cancer, What is it?

Thirty thousand cases of ovarian cancer are diagnosed annually, and we in every 65 women 85 years of age has cancer of the ovary. Preventive examinations, which discover cancer earlier, usually improve the chances for cure.

Prevention is especially important for women at greatest risk: those who have had breast cancer and those who have a first-degree relative (mother, sister, or child) who has had ovarian cancer. Other causes include use of fertility drugs, delayed childbirth (past the age of 35), and having had few or no children.
